Welcome to the Cilento!
It is with great pleasure and emotion and I present you with my new project – video-recipes of Cilento’s specialties. It is a project that, first and foremost, promotes the principles of the Mediterranean Diet, which has its origins right here in the Cilento and that still today is recognized around the world for its health benefits and as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. With these videos I also want to recount the authentic connections between a region and its gastronomic excellence. The recipes describe and speak of the traditions, the identity, of women , and their artful ability to make do with what little there was to create genuine, tasteful recipes full of love. When my mother Lia made these dishes, I asked, “Why do you make it like this? Why don’t you have a notebook of recipes? The answer: “I don’t know; this is how my mother and my grandmother did it, and I do it that way, too!”
I like to imagine these video recipes like a museum where you can find history, traditions, customs, and costumes; like a jewelry shop where you find precious and valuable treasures; and like a pharmacy where you can cure your body (with the benefits of food), your mind (while you savor them), and above all, the soul (when you prepare them for your dear ones, or together with them in an atmosphere of harmony, gaiety and fun). Special thanks to my mother Lia and all the Cilento women who still pass down and let us taste these delicacies. A greeting and a goodbye to those who have already been guests in Mamma Lia's kitchen.
